I have been working on a few more mushroom characters to add on to my “Shrumans” series. I recorded my process this time so you can see how I build up depth using a smooth airbrush and a hard-edge “gouache” brush in Photoshop. I am still working on producing a sticker pack with these little buds, but you can find the first set of stickers on my Etsy store.
New Timelapse: Snow Study Digital Painting
This is an exploration of form, light, and color with a great reference inspiration: snow! This time I used just one brush in Photoshop, which is the basic gouache brush from Kyle Webster's gouache brush pack. I use this brush along with basic round brushes for most of my work!
Timelapse Digital Painting: Poinsettia Elf
Here to spread some Christmas cheer is my Poinsettia elf. She was drawn and painted in Photoshop using the basic round brush and my favorite Gouache brush from a Kyle Webster brush pack.
Some of the notable tools used:
Symmetry Tool: Used to establish the face drawing and initial passes of painting
Liquify Tool: Great for adjusting proportions of the figure and making the edges of the leaves more wavy
Smudge tool: Sometimes used to blur edges, but also to push things a bit, like the liquify tool
Adjustment Layer: Gradient Map: Used to establish base layer for color
Mixer Brush: Used to blend harsh brush strokes
